For centuries the Jewish people have anticipated and waited for a promised deliverer, a prophet known as the Messiah or "anointed one." They believed the Messiah would fulfill their ancient prophecies, and rescue them from their oppressors.
Nearly 2000 years ago, at 30 years of age, Jesus began his public teaching, gradually revealing that he was the Anointed One. He first traveled to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist, who had "prepared the way" for Jesus by calling people to repentence.
Jesus chose twelve disciples to travel with him throughout the land, teaching in temples, performing signs and wonders, miraculously healing the sick and preaching to the masses. |
